uclibc Upgrade question

Hi Everybody,

We are using uclibc libuClibc-0.9.28 with kernel 2.6.16.1 on a board based on ppc405.
We want to upgrade to uclibc 0.9.33, I have few couple of basic questions

1.       Do we need to regenerate the cross compilation tool-chain ?

2.       Do we need to upgrade the kernel to latest ?

The Primary motivation for upgrade is to migrate to NPTL from Linuxthreads.
