Sorry for crying wolf like that.  It must have been my home brewed cross
compiler (big-endian, oabi, gcc v4.2.4, binutils 2.18, from buildroot)
that messed up somehow.  When I reverted back to our current armbe-based
GCC v4.1.2 with uClibc 0.9.29 (linuxthreads-old) my threaded apps work
just fine.

I'm currently testing out a crosstool-ng based v4.2.4 with uClibc 0.9.29
and it too seems to work just fine.
