How do I reproduce your problem?  What uClibc .config are you using?  
(Armbe-eabi implies at least an armv5 processor.)  What exactly did you do 
that went "boing"?  (Code snippet please?)

I don't have any actual arm hardware lying around here ready to use, but it's 
working fine for me under qemu for both armv4l-oabi-softfloat and 
armv5l-oabi-vfp.  I still need to make an armv5l-eabi and an armv5be-eabi to 
test with...
