I was thinking about it making it an additional option, old linuxthreads 
does not have them, new linuxthreads could provide them, but maybe someone 
would want to run in old_compat_mode without POSIX timers, NPTL can 
enforce that option (other candidates could be POSIX spinlocks, barriers)
