buildroot broken for powerpc

What am I doing wrong?

Download recent buildroot snapshot.

Extract to /tmp
Do make menuconfig
select powerpc for target (first menu item selection)
Save + exit (all the rest accept the defaults)
Do "make"
It fails out trying to configure uclibc because it can't
find the powerpc-linux-uclibc-gcc cross compiler I'm trying to build
in the first place.

Any advice would be welcome.

Also followup question: I would like the cross compiler to be named
"powerpc-linux-*"
as in
powerpc-linux-gcc, powerpc-linux-ld, etc.
