[uClibc] status of port to x86_64 (AMD64)

I have searched Google and the mailing list archives for information
on building uClibc and BusyBox for x86_64 hardware, as the buildroot
package does not have an option to select x86_64 as a target.  I found
a message indicating that a port was being started, but I cannot find
any further information.  Is there a patch to enable support for
x86_64?
