[uClibc] Large files when compiling for MIPSEL target

Hello,
I compiled a mipsel toolchain using the default settings - without c++ 
support - host system is x86 linux.
The produced code runs without any problems on the mipsel target but I noted 
that even a tiny "hello world" program is about 65k in size.
I did not use any -static option during compilation.
Stripping the file does not really help considerably.

Any idea what could be wrong - or is this normal?
