Is it because we're not bootstraping the compiler ?
FWIW, it is possible to bootstrap a native compiler with uclibc
with few patches, similar to what Erik does in gcc_target.mk
(ie the perl stuff...).
I'm conscious bootstraping doesn't help in cross compilation.
I recall sending out to the list *long* time ago a suggestion
of building a complete native gnu tree (what they call uberbaum).
I'm in the process of consolidating this soon, but it's not
going to look like buildroot I'm afraid. Consists of unpacking
sources like gcc, binutils, uclibc, busybox, several patches,
then configure, make bootstrap install. Quite different.
Anyone interested ?
