Ah, I see what you mean now... the additional space required by the
difference between `immediate' deallocation and the deferred
deallcation by a GC could make the heap too big (and too sparse).  

It seems that from the kernel's point of view, it wouldn't be any
different that a typical program using malloc, once you accounted for
the greater memory usage though.
