[uClibc]uClibc with busybox: insmod fails with unresolved symbols

Hi folks,
I wrote a simple char device driver that loads without problems on
redhat linux with kernel 2.4.2-2.
On a diskless machine that uses a smaller but also 2.4.2-2 kernel and
busybox 0.5 insmod fails
giving some unresolved symbols. Among the symbols are "schedule",
"register_chrdev" and "printk".
As I am new to linux and even kernel programming I would appreciate a
hint where to look for the
problem. The uClibc version is 0.9.5.
